Christ United Presbyterian Church
History

Christ United Presbyterian Church was formed on July 11, 1967, by the merger of East Side Presbyterian Church and Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church. Two churches with a long history of dedicated service to the Lord. With the industrialization of the areas in which these churches were located attendance and membership dwindled. There was talk of dissolution of the churches, but the faith of these members coupled with the ministry of Miss Sarah Culberson, were held together during trying times. On January 15, 1966, Rev. Herman S. Boles was called to serve the churches. Rev. Boles' ministry had been spent in Church Development and Organization. One year later the two churches voted to merge and sell the old properties and build in a new location.

First Presbyterian Church of Wichita Falls, greatly helped with their gift of over $25,000, but more than this, their encouragement, guidance, and prayers. The members of the new Christ United Presbyterian church pledged the balance needed to build the new church. Each member worked in the construction of the new church. The members maintained their faith in the belief that God would see their prayers answered. In July of 1968, the first services were held in the new building, but this was not enough for these people who voted to build a Manse next to the church. Again their faith in God saw their prayers answered. The pastor and his family moved into the new manse in October of 1968. Faith can move mountains! Our thanks to God for His enduring Love. Dedication services were held in October of 1968. All former pastors were invited to attend, and many of them participated in the dedication services.

As Christ United moves ahead obeying the call that Almighty God has ordained for this community, we look ahead to the many challenges and blessings He has foreordained. Christ United is located close to Sheppard Air Force Base where it has served as a Church Home for many members and their families in military service. Our church has been used for various community pruposes which include a voting place for elections and a meeting place for the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. The friendliness and fellowship of the members radiates a feeling of Christian love. Denominationalism is secondary with these people who are interested in serving God and their fellowman in brotherly love.

Christ United is a church United by Christ, joined in love, and strengthened by faith.
